Lip Augmentation

Although artificial injectable fillers are most commonly used for lip augmentation, fat augmentation of the lips provides an option for individuals seeking a more permanent result. Fat augmentation provides a soft and natural feel to the lips, while maintaining longer lasting results.

Who is a candidate?

  • Men and women desiring larger and fuller lips.
  • Men and women who prefer a more permanent option for lip enlargement than artificial injectable fillers.
  • It is recommended that patients first try injectable fillers to see how they like larger lips before jumping to fat augmentation.
  • Non-smokers.

Intended Results

  • Larger, more voluptuous lips.
  • Lips with enhanced volume and pout.

Procedure Description

  • The procedure is performed in our office procedure suite with local anesthesia.
  • A small amount of fat is harvested usually from the abdomen.
  • Small punctures are made at the corners of the lips and the lips are filled with fat up to the desired size and shape
  • Care is taken to place minute amounts of fat during each injection to prevent lumps and bumps, while also providing for greater fat cell viability.
  • The small puncture incisions are usually closed with dissolvable sutures.
  • A compression garment is placed on the abdominal harvest site.
  • Patients are sent home to recuperate.

Recuperation and Healing

  • The recovery period averages 3-5 days.
  • Swelling and bruising may occur to a variable degree and are usually mild.
  • Patients may return to their daily life quickly.
  • The sutures are dissolve on their own.
