Many patients complain that their chin/jawline is too small for their face. When one has a lack of chin projection, the nose may appear larger or the neck may appear unrefined. Psychologically, a weak chin/jawline may also give false perceptions of weakness or lack of strength. For this reason, many patients will seek surgery to improve the appearance of the chin. Chin augmentation is also commonly combined with facial/neck liposuction, rhinoplasty (nose job), and rhytidectomy (facelift), affording remarkable results.

Surgical Goals: |
To increase chin projection and provide a stronger profile. |
The Procedure: |
The procedure is very safe. It is performed via a small incision either underneath the chin or inside the mouth. An implant, similar to the consistency of a normal chin, is placed in front of the bone to increase the projection of the chin. The implant is secured and the incision is sutured closed. |
Anesthesia: |
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or under IV sedation. |
Length of Time: |
Typically the procedure takes between ½-1 hour. |
After the Procedure: |
All patients are sent home that day after their procedure, and are given a set of post procedure instructions to follow. The patient will follow up the next day for a post procedure check, and again on the 7th post procedure day. |
Recovery: |
Some swelling and bruising can be expected and usually subsides within the first two weeks. Mild temporary numbness of the lower lip is also possible. Mild discomfort is controlled with pain medications. |
Alternate Procedures: |
Fat Grafting to the chin area can also help to augment the chin and jawline. |
