Neck Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the United States. It is also referred to as liposculpture, lipoplasty, and suction-assisted lipectomy. The ideal candidate is physically fit and eats well-balanced meals but is unable to reduce a fatty deposit that is well localized and often seems to involve a genetic susceptibility. While not a treatment for obesity, liposuction selectively removes persistent and unwanted fat.

Patients seeking neck liposuction often complain about a “double chin”, “no neck”, lack of jawline definition, and a displeasing profile. All of these complaints can be addressed with neck liposuction.

Bothersome fatty deposits in the neck can be safely and effectively removed with liposuction. After neck liposuction the neck will appear slimmer and the patient’s profile will be more refined. Neck liposuction, allows the chin and jawline to become more defined, providing a more sculpted appearance.

Neck Liposuction Procedure Facts

Surgical Goals:
To safely remove unwanted fatty deposits while recontouring and sculpting a more aesthetically pleasing neck and jawline.
The Procedure:
Small hidden incisions (about 3mm) are made behind the ear and under the chin. A special tumescent fluid solution is next placed within the fatty areas to be removed. This solution provides numbing to the areas targeted, while also minimizing bleeding. Fat is then carefully removed from the areas of concern using a surgical instrument called a cannula, which is attached with tubing to a suction machine. At the end of the procedure, the skin openings may be sutured or left open to heal, depending on the size of the openings. The patient is placed in a compression garment that is worn for certain amount of time afterwards.
Anesthesia:
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or under sedation depending on the patient’s preference.
Length of Time:
Approximately ½ hour.
After the Procedure:
All patients are sent home the night after surgery, and are given a set of post procedure instructions to follow. The patient will follow up the next day for a post procedure check. The patient will then follow up with Dr. Corrado as deemed necessary during their post procedure course.
Recovery:
While recovery is easy, you should expect some initial drainage along with swelling, bruising and mild discomfort. Your compression garment will minimize the swelling, bruising, discomfort and assist in the retraction of any loose skin. Swelling and bruising usually resolve in 1-2 weeks. While some results are noted immediately, your final shape and form will continue to improve as your swelling subsides. Usually light work duties may be resumed within two to four days and vigorous exercise within two to three weeks.
