Juvederm Philadelphia

In the search for a more youthful appearance, people are seeking treatments to address facial lines, crow’s feet, and brow furrows. To make these lines disappear, many patients actively seek treatment that involves injecting cosmetic wrinkle fillers into the affected areas.

What is JUVÉDERM®?

It is injectable gel is a “next-generation” smooth consistency gel dermal hyaluronic filler that helps to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds like “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds) and “marionette lines” (oral commissures).

What does JUVÉDERM® do?

This injectable gel temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face.

Why does JUVÉDERM® come in several formulations?

Several formulations of Juvederm exist to provide great versatility for surgeons to perform various types of facial rejuvenation. The Ultra and Volbella formulations are more delicate fillers which are well suited for correcting fine facial wrinkles and for creating naturally appearing fuller lips. The Ultra Plus, Voluma and Vollure formulations are more robust for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles. These formulations are also used for deeper injections, to provide greater facial volume in area such as the cheeks. Top Philadelphia Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Anthony Corrado, is a Juvederm specialist. He will consult with you prior to injections to determine what formulation is right for you, based on your aesthetic goals.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps to hydrate and add volume to your skin. In addition to its use as an aesthetic treatment, it has also been used for more than 20 years for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as for eye surgeries and wound repair.

Does the correction last forever?

No. Correction is temporary; therefore, touch-up injections as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal corrections. JUVÉDERM® is the only hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to 1 year (individual patient results will vary).

The newest filler in the Juvederm® family has received FDA approval for correction of moderate to severe lines and folds. The most exciting news is that it lasts up 18 months, which is one year longer than most other fillers on the market today.

Vollure® XC is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that uses the same Vycross technology that Juvederm Voluma® XC (used to add volume to the cheeks) and Juvederm Volbella® XC (used for lip augmentation) uses. The FDA has approved this same Vycross technology for use in the nasolabial folds, which is the most treated area with fillers.

The patented Vycross® technology blends varying molecule weights to achieve a smooth result. This cross-linking makes the fillers more pliable and easier to inject, resulting in a better outcome for the patient.

With Vollure® lasting up to 18 months, this is a great option for those who don’t want to come in as often for touch-up treatments. This also makes Vollure a more cost effective option.

Vollure® can be used to treat moderate to severe lines in the mid-face:

  • Laugh Lines
  • Marionette Lines
  • Chin Lines

  • Lasts up to 18 months, one year longer than most fillers used to treat the same areas
  • Cost effective
  • Natural results
  • Balance, even, smooth skin
  • Vibrant, youthful appearance

Voluma® is approved by the FDA for volume correction in the cheeks. It is the only filler proven to last up to 2 years in the cheek area. When treated again after 2 years, patients typically require less product to achieve their desired result.

Voluma® is a great option for individuals who would like to restore lost volume to the cheeks. Age-related midface volume loss can cause the cheeks to flatten giving your face a hollow appearance. You may also begin to notice skin sag in your mid-face. Although there are many dermal fillers on the market that can restore fullness and volume, Voluma® was designed to add volume, while also gently lifting and contouring the cheeks.

  • Restore or add volume to the mid-face
  • Lift sagging skin to regain a youthful contour
  • Replenish age or weight loss related volume and shape to the cheeks
  • Lasts up to 2 years

Volbella® is another hyaluronic acid in the Juvederm family of dermal fillers. It has been tailored to add subtle volume to the lips and to improve the appearance of vertical lip lines. Volbella has been proven to last up to 1 year.

Just as the skin starts to wrinkle, sag and lose volume, the lips start to show signs of aging as well. Whether your lips are losing their youthful luscious appearance or you have never been satisfied with their shape or size, Volbella® can be used to enhance the appearance of your lips.

Volbella® is used to add fullness to the lips, improve symmetry, and reduce the signs of aging or skin damage resulting from the sun, smoking, etc. It’s smooth gel-like formulation, which uses Allergan’s proprietary Vycross® technology, provides long lasting natural results. Volbella also contains lidocaine to minimize the discomfort that can sometimes be associated with lip injections.

  • Adds fullness to the lips
  • Lasts up to one year
  • Correction of lip asymmetry
  • Softens fines lines around the mouth
  • Provides subtle results so no one needs to know you had it done
  • Lasts up to 1 year

Side Effects: As with any filler treatment, some patients may experience mild swelling, redness, and/or minor bruising. Most side effects subside within a few days.

JUVÉDERM® Treatment Facts

Before Your Treatment:

Dr. Corrado recommends that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

When You Arrive:

If this is your first visit, Dr. Corrado will ask about your medical history, including any allergies you may have or medications you may take, and will tell you more about wrinkle treatment with JUVÉDERM®. JUVÉDERM® injectable gel does not require an allergy test.

Although anesthesia is not required, your Dr. Corrado may use topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area first.

The Procedure:

Dr. Corrado will place the JUVÉDERM® injectable gel under your skin to augment, or fill, wrinkles and folds. Following the injection, he will gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy. The injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes per site.

After the Procedure:

With JUVÉDERM®, there is minimal recovery or downtime. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period.

Seeing Results:

Patients should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. And one treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles for up to 1 year. However, results may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental “touch up” treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.
