Juvéderm

In the search for a more youthful appearance, people are seeking treatments to address facial lines, crow’s feet, and brow furrows. To make these lines disappear, many patients actively seek treatment that involves injecting cosmetic wrinkle fillers into the affected areas.

Real Patients, Real Results

What is Juvéderm®?

It is injectable gel is a “next-generation” smooth consistency gel dermal hyaluronic filler that helps to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds like “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds) and “marionette lines” (oral commissures).

What does Juvéderm do?

This injectable gel temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face.

Why does Juvéderm come in several formulations?

Several formulations of Juvéderm exist to provide great versatility for surgeons to perform various types of facial rejuvenation. The Ultra formulation is a more delicate filler that is well-suited for correcting fine facial wrinkles and for creating naturally appearing fuller lips. The Ultra Plus and Voluma formulations are more robust for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles. These formulations are also used for deeper injections to provide greater facial volume in areas such as the cheeks. Top Philadelphia facial plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Corrado is a Juvéderm specialist. He will consult with you prior to injections to determine what formulation is right for you based on your aesthetic goals.

Juvéderm Ultra XC

Juvéderm Ultra XC is mainly used to treat facial wrinkles and to increase lip fullness. Made from a modified form of hyaluronic acid, this filler has been proven to add fullness for up to one year instantly. It also contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic that helps with any discomfort during treatments. This is where the “XC” in its name comes from.

Juvéderm Ultra XC treatments are quick and convenient, taking as little as half an hour and requiring no downtime. The most common areas treated with Juvéderm Ultra XC are laugh/smile lines, the appearance of scars, and lip augmentation.

If you’re seeking treatment for the wrinkles under your eyes or in the cheeks, another Juvéderm product may be a better option for you.

Most individuals see results from Juvéderm Ultra XC immediately, and these results last between six months and one year. Most patients require follow-up maintenance treatments.

You will be able to return to your regular daily routine directly after your Juvéderm Ultra XC treatment. However, you should avoid high-intensity exercise, sun exposure, and alcohol for the rest of the day.

Juvéderm Voluma XC

Juvéderm Voluma is approved by the FDA for volume correction in the cheeks. It is the only filler proven to last up to 2 years in the cheek area. When treated again after two years, patients typically require less product to achieve their desired result.

Voluma is a great option for individuals who would like to restore lost volume to the cheeks. Age-related midface volume loss can cause the cheeks to flatten, giving your face a hollow appearance.

You may also begin to notice skin sag in your mid-face. Although there are many dermal fillers on the market that can restore fullness and volume, Voluma was designed to add volume while also gently lifting and contouring the cheeks.

Benefits:

  • Restore or add volume to the mid-face
  • Lift sagging skin to regain a youthful contour
  • Replenish age or weight loss-related volume and shape to the cheeks
  • Lasts up to two years

Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC

Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC plumps lips, sculpts cheeks and softens wrinkles and folds. This filler boasts long-lasting results and can last for up to one year. It is able to accomplish this due to its specialized formula, which contains the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid available to date.

Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC also happens to provide the most voluminous lips. It is made from an extra-smooth gel that travels easily into the skin, creating a soft and natural appearance.

Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC:

  • Has a thicker gel which has a better lifting ability
  • It is effective for shaping facial contours
  • Is ideal for deeper folds and more severe volume loss
  • Is ideal for plumping the lips
  • Can enhance the cheeks

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps to hydrate and add volume to your skin. In addition to its use as an aesthetic treatment, it has also been used for more than 20 years for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as for eye surgeries and wound repair.

Does the correction last forever?

No. Correction is temporary; therefore, touch-up injections, as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal corrections. Juvéderm is the only hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA-approved to last up to 1 year (individual patient results will vary).

Juvéderm Treatment Facts

Before Your Treatment

Dr. Corrado recommends that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

When You Arrive

If this is your first visit, Dr. Corrado will ask about your medical history, including any allergies you may have or medications you may take, and will tell you more about wrinkle treatment with Juvéderm. Juvéderm injectable gel does not require an allergy test.

The Procedure

Dr. Corrado will place the Juvéderm injectable gel under your skin to augment or fill wrinkles and folds. Following the injection, he will gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy. The injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes per site.

Anesthesia

Although anesthesia is not required, your Dr. Corrado may use topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area first.

After the Procedure

With Juvéderm, there is minimal recovery or downtime. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in seven days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period.

Seeing Results

Patients should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. And one treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles for up to one year. However, results may vary, and correction is temporary. Supplemental “touch-up” treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.
