Restylane

Restylane® is a cosmetic type of dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid, which is used to smooth facial wrinkles, plump lips, and provide an overall improvement in facial volume. This minimally invasive procedure has helped many patients in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and Philadelphia’s metropolitan areas achieve facial rejuvenation with little to no downtime.

Real Patients, Real Results

What is Restylane?

Restylane was FDA-approved in 2003 for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles, including nasolabial folds (the lines between the nose and mouth). Upon being injected beneath the skin’s surface, the gel adds natural volume and lift to smooth wrinkles and folds. Restylane is gradually degraded by the body’s own mechanism and disappears without any residue. Results can be seen immediately following treatment and will last six months or even longer.

The Restylane line of fillers

The various formulas available in the Restylane line include:

  • Restylane: Formulated to restore volume to the skin and smooth moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. Also used for lip plumping.
  • Restylane Lyft: A specially formulated filler used to rejuvenate the backs of aging hands, restore lost cheek volume, create a more defined facial structure, and/or correct age-related wrinkles, lines, and folds. This filler is the only FDA-approved product to restore the backs of the hands.
  • Restylane Silk: A fine, smooth gel formula that smooths vertical lip lines without creating a puffy look. Creates a subtle increase in lip volume.
  • Restylane Refyne: This formula is injected to smooth deeper laugh lines and marionette lines and has the benefit of being extremely flexible. This allows for natural facial expressions.
  • Restylane Defyne: A formula developed to smooth out deeper age-related lines and creases around the mouth and chin.

Restylane Treatment Facts

Before Your Treatment

Dr. Corrado recommends that you avoid any medications that can cause bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

When You Arrive

If this is your first visit, Dr. Corrado will ask about your medical history, including any allergies you may have or medications you may take, and will tell you more about wrinkle treatment with Restylane. Restylane injectable gel does not require an allergy test.

Anesthesia

Although anesthesia is not required, Dr. Corrado may use topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area first.

The procedure

Dr. Corrado will place the Restylane injectable gel under your skin to augment or fill wrinkles and folds. Following the injection, he will gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy. The injection itself usually takes only about fifteen minutes per area.

After the procedure

With Restylane, there is minimal recovery or downtime. For the first twenty-four hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, bruising, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. After treatment, temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature, and clear up on their own in seven days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period.

Seeing results

Patients should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and one treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles for up to one year. However, results may vary, and correction is temporary. Supplemental touch-up treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.
