Fix your Skin

There are many factors that contribute to skin damage from improper diet and lack of exercise, to aging, to the weather and environmental factors. Dry skin, age spots, sun damage, lack of elasticity, discoloration and wrinkles all seem to accelerate the aging process faster than our brain would like to accept. It leaves most of us searching for the elusive answer for reversing or stopping the aging process.

While there is no magic cure to aging and skin issues there are many solutions that will deliver results that can slow or even reverse damage to the skin or even repair the damage, returning much of the youthful appearance we desire.

Surgical Procedures

For many, surgery is and should be a last resort to fixing skin damage issues. There is always an inherent risk that should be weighed against the benefits. Once that consideration is made, it is great to know that medical research combined with experienced surgeons has reduced many of the risks formally associated with cosmetic surgical procedures. For many surgical skin repair procedures surgeons no longer need to place the patient under general anesthesia. Most patients are able to remain awake with anesthesia applied locally to the site of the skin repair. Many of these types of procedures can also be performed in an outpatient setting which eliminates a hospital stay and often reduces the overall costs associated with the procedures.

Laser and Chemical Treatment

Laser and chemical treatments are used to treat and repair a variety of issues, but they are regularly employed to repair skin issues such as removing tattoos, reducing the appearance of scars and discoloration, removing wrinkles and improving the tone or texture of damaged skin.

These procedures can be performed under the direction of a physician on an outpatient patient basis, or they can be performed in spa locations that employ the services of an aesthetician.

Creams and Ointments

The market for creams, ointments, oils and other skin applications has grown over the years. Advances in moisturizers as well as minerals and medications that improve skin issues have improved the results that people may expect. Creams and oils are used to reduce the dry, flaky appearance of skin damage. Certain products can be used to reduce damage from the sun, reduce discoloration or the appearance of scars and return youthful elasticity to the skin.

Vitamin Therapy

While people search for a solution to skin damage they also yearn for a return to more natural forms of treatment. Vitamin therapy can be a solution to many types of skin damage. Research into the benefits of Vitamin D has shown that it not only benefits the bones, but may be useful in treating skin damage due to such problems as psoriasis and scleroderma. Vitamin E is thought to have properties that can reduce skin aging and may also protect skin from damage caused by chemotherapy. Vitamin C may be useful in preventing and treating skin damage due to the sun, as well as damage caused by radiation therapy.

Daily Routine and exercise

It may seem like the most difficult option, but many skin issues can be delayed, reduced or repaired through proper diet, exercise and daily routine. One can never underestimate the power of a good night of sleep. Sleep is when our body repairs and rejuvenates itself to prepare for the next day. Once you receive a full night of sleep, eating healthy can be a factor that largely contributes to the texture, elasticity, and health of your skin. Vegetables, fruits, fish, nuts and even meat contain nutrients and oils that can benefit the health of skin. Eating these foods in the right portions will also benefit our weight and reduce medical ailments that can take a toll on your skin. Finally, dressing for the weather and protecting your skin from the wind and sun will reduce dryness, discoloration and textures issues.

Your skin is your body’s first defense against the damaging effects of sun and environment. The condition of your skin may also contribute to the way you feel about yourself. There are many ways to prevent, reduce, or repair damage done to your skin.
