Your nose is one of the most prominent and noticeable parts of your face. If you're unhappy with the appearance of your nose, whether you feel it's too large, too small, or misshapen, it can cause you to feel embarrassed or self-conscious about how you look.

A rhinoplasty in South Jersey with Dr. Corrado can help reshape your nose to achieve facial harmony,  take the attention away from your nose, and put it back onto the natural attraction of your face.

What is rhinoplasty, and what can it address?

Rhinoplasty, more commonly known as a nose job, is a surgery performed to refine the nose's size, shape, and symmetry.

Rhinoplasty resolves functional nose concerns, issues caused by trauma, and cosmetic concerns with the shape and/or size you've always had but wish was different. Rhinoplasty achieves an aesthetic outcome, correcting a deviated septum, making a prominent nose smaller, straightening a crooked nose, smoothing bumps, or refining the nasal tip.

What happens during a rhinoplasty procedure?

Dr. Corrado performs rhinoplasty in Cherry Hill, NJ, at his private practice, while you are under mild sedation with local anesthesia or general anesthesia. This decision and which technique will be used during your rhinoplasty will be determined ahead of time during your consultation.

Two common techniques are used during a rhinoplasty procedure, with several variations on each. Which of these is used during your procedure depends on your aesthetic needs and unique physical structure.

Open rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty is the best approach for more complex or extensive nose alterations. This procedure uses small incisions on the outside of the nose, in the columella between the nostrils. Additional incisions are made inside the nose as well. The nasal skin is lifted to expose the underlying nasal structures for more accurate and significant reshaping.

Closed rhinoplasty

Smaller incisions are made within the nostrils. This technique carries the added benefit of leaving no visible scarring of any kind. However, the changes made during this procedure are not as significant in reshaping or resizing.

Types of Rhinoplasty with Dr. Corrado

Primary Rhinoplasty

Primary rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure designed to reshape and change the appearance of the nose. This refers to a rhinoplasty procedure which is performed on a nose which has not underwent prior surgery.

Tip Rhinoplasty

Tip Rhinoplasty refers to aesthetic nasal surgery solely performed to improve the appearance of the nasal tip. Specialized techniques such as cephalic trim, tip suture techniques, cartilage grafts, as well as other sculpting methods are used to create an ideal nasal tip.

Functional Rhinoplasty

Functional rhinoplasty (also called septoplasty) addresses functional issues, including snoring problems, difficulty breathing, sinus infections, headaches, and other troubles which result from a deviated septum.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty is performed for patients who are unhappy with a previous rhinoplasty procedure, whether the concern is cosmetic or functional. Revision rhinoplasty can be complex and requires a top facial plastic surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty procedures, such as Dr. Corrado.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

This procedure reshapes the nose to improve imperfections while preserving unique anatomic features that derive from cultural aesthetic heritage. Ethnic rhinoplasty maintains the features that are unique to your background while also achieving your goals for your nose. This is a highly customized procedure that requires an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon to ensure the unique beauty of many heritages, including Indian, Latino, Middle Eastern, Asian, and African-American, is preserved and respected.

Recovery after rhinoplasty

Our South Jersey rhinoplasty patients may return home with a friend or family member once their rhinoplasty surgery is complete. Expect significant bruising and swelling during your recovery process. Ensure you keep your head elevated, and apply cold compresses around your nose and eyes.

Dr. Corrado will tape your nose and hold an external sprint over it to help it heal properly. After about a week, this will be removed. After about two weeks, most patients are able to return to light or sedentary work.

Final signs of swelling will slowly decrease over a few months. You may experience some distortion or asymmetry during this time, which is a common part of the recovery process. It’s important to remain patient as we guide you through each part of your recovery. Keep in mind that it may take up to 12 months for your nose to fully “settle.”
