Rhinoplasty – Correction of the Bulbous Nasal Tip

Published on August 14, 2015 by

The desire to create a more refined, thinner nasal tip is quite common amongst Philadelphia area facial plastic surgery patients. A bulbous tip is formed for a variety of reasons. Patients with thicker nasal skin tend to have more roundedness to the tip. Another cause is the tip cartilage itself. The lower lateral cartilages may be too wide, convex, or both.

When performing surgery on a nose, a large component to the ideal aesthetic is having a well refined nasal tip. To improve this, Dr. Corrado will utilize a variety of surgical techniques to modify the nasal tip to allow it to achieve better balance with the rest of the nose. Dr. Corrado has been perfecting his technique for many years, and has experienced tremendous success performing rhinoplasty in multiple ethnicities.

Many techniques are utilized to correct a bulbous nasal tip. If the lower lateral cartilages are too wide results in fullness at the upper portion of the nasal tip, a conservative cephalic trim is a good method of improving this condition. By removing a small portion of excess cartilage at the upper portion of the tip, one can achieve marked tip refinement. Care is taken not to remove excessive amounts of cartilage which could result in destabilizing the tip complex. Tip sutures can also be placed into the lower lateral cartilage to further sculpt them to a more aesthetically pleasing configuration. These tip suture will also help to make the tip appear more slender and refined. Tip grafts will also help to refine the nasal tip. Cartilage from the nasal septum is typically utilized as graft material. Precise placement of tip cartilage grafts will also help to further shape a bulbous tip.

Tip rhinoplasty surgery is a gentle balance between aesthetic appearance and function. Dr. Corrado strives to provide excellent cosmetic results while also maintaining the functional capacity of the nose. Many times rhinoplasty surgeries are performed where excessive cartilage removal or tip narrowing is carried out. Inevitably, this results in complications with aesthetic appearance as well causing nasal obstruction with breathing difficulty. Dr. Corrado believes in natural appearing results which do not look overdone or fake in their appearance.
